Massey Ferguson E157.18 – Engine ECU: Fuel Rail Pressure Below Requested Pressure

The engine control system has detected that the actual fuel pressure in the common rail is below the acceptable tolerance threshold required for proper fuel injection. This can occur during engine operation, when starting, or immediately after stopping the engine.

   Verify there is adequate fuel in the tank and that it is not contaminated with water or debris

   Check both the primary (water separator) and secondary fuel filters for blockages

   Inspect the entire common rail system, high-pressure lines, and injector connections for visible fuel leaks

   Inspect the wiring harness and the 3-pin connector at the fuel rail pressure sensor for corrosion, chafing, or loose connections

   Verify the lift pump/transfer pump is delivering adequate low-pressure fuel to the high-pressure injection pump

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the fuel rail and the area around the sensor before beginning work.

   Relieve Pressure

   Ensure the engine is off and has sat long enough for the high-pressure fuel system to depressurize.

   Disconnect Sensor

   Unplug the 3-pin electrical connector from the fuel rail pressure sensor.

   Remove Sensor

   Carefully unscrew the faulty sensor from the common rail. Have clean shop rags ready to catch any residual fuel.

   Install New Sensor

   Thread the new OEM sensor into the rail and torque it to the manufacturer's specification.

   Reconnect Wiring

   Plug the 3-pin connector back into the sensor.

   Prime the System

   Before attempting to start the engine, cycle the ignition key to the "ON" position several times. This allows the lift pump to prime the system and build baseline fuel pressure.

   Test

   Start the tractor, check for leaks around the sensor threads, and clear the E157.18 fault code using a diagnostic tool.
