Check the cause
Visual Wiring Inspection: Inspect the wiring loom that runs down to the hub on the front of the fan. Look for the harness rubbing against the Vistronic unit and shorting out.
Voltage/Reference Check: Check if other cab controls are acting erratically. Unplug the fan to see if the 5V reference voltage returns to normal, as a shorted harness can draw down the 5V supply.
CAN Bus Test: Test the CAN High and CAN Low pins at the fan connector for proper voltage and continuity back to the ECU.
Component Test: If the wiring and CAN bus are intact, the internal electronics of the Vistronic fan clutch have likely failed.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Access the Cooling Package
Open the hood and remove any necessary cowls or shrouds to access the front of the engine cooling fan.
Repair the Harness (If Chafed)
If the diagnostic check revealed that the wiring loom was rubbing on the fan hub, repair the broken wires or replace the fan wiring harness section. Reroute and secure the new harness with zip ties so it cannot contact moving parts.
Replace the Vistronic Fan Clutch (If Defective)
Relieve tension on the fan/alternator drive belt and remove the belt. Unplug the electrical connector from the fan clutch. Unbolt the fan clutch assembly from the support/water pump hub. Transfer the fan blades to the new Vistronic clutch (if not sold as a complete assembly). Install the new clutch, torque the mounting bolts to OEM spec, and reinstall the drive belt.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery, turn the key on, and use a diagnostic service tool to clear the E1639.19 / SPN 1639 FMI 19 fault code from the EEM4 ECU.
