E171.19

Massey Ferguson E171.19 – Dash: Issue With Signal From Outside Air Temperature Sensor

Issue description

The controller is receiving an erratic, out-of-range, or missing electrical signal from the ambient air temperature sensor, which is used to monitor the outside climate conditions.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the outside air temperature sensor (typically mounted near the front grille or intake) and its 2-pin oval connector for corrosion, dirt, or moisture.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness running from the sensor to the Dash module for chafing, breaks, or short circuits.

  3. Test the sensor resistance using a multimeter. A healthy sensor reads around 5000 Ohms at room temperature. An open circuit (infinite resistance) or a dead short indicates a failed sensor.

  4. Verify that the Dash module is sending the correct reference voltage (usually 5V) to the sensor connector when the ignition is ON.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Locate the Sensor

Find the ambient air temperature sensor at the front of the tractor.

  3. Disconnect

Press the release tab on the 2-pin oval electrical connector and pull it free from the sensor.

  4. Remove the Sensor

Carefully unclip or pull the faulty sensor out of its mounting bracket.

  5. Install the New Part

Push the new sensor into the mounting bracket until it is secure.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the electrical connector back into the sensor, ensuring it clicks firmly into place.

  7. Test

Reconnect the battery, turn the ignition ON, and verify that the outside temperature displays correctly on the dash and that fault code E171.19 has cleared.
