Issue description
The fuel inlet temperature has exceeded the maximum safe operating threshold of 85°C. The system typically initiates a fuel limit by map or power degradation mode to protect the engine and fuel injection components from heat damage.

Check the cause
Connect the Massey Ferguson EDT or WinEEM service tool to check live fuel temperature data. If it reads an impossibly high value immediately on a cold engine, the sensor or wiring is faulty.
Inspect the wiring harness and the two-pin connector going to the fuel temperature sensor for chafed wires, corrosion, or a short circuit that could send a false high-voltage signal.
Unplug the sensor and test its resistance with a multimeter, comparing the reading against the OEM temperature/resistance chart to check for an internal short.
If the sensor is reading accurately, investigate mechanical causes for fuel overheating, such as a blocked fuel cooler, a failing fuel transfer pump, or operating under heavy load with an extremely low fuel level.
Repair steps
Preparation
Turn off the engine, remove the key, and allow the engine to cool. Relieve any residual pressure in the fuel system.
Locate the Sensor
Locate the fuel temperature sensor, which is typically threaded into the fuel filter housing or the high-pressure fuel injection pump head.
Disconnect
Depress the locking tab and disconnect the gray two-pin electrical connector from the sensor.
Removal
Using a properly sized wrench on the sensor's hex nut middle section, carefully unscrew the faulty brass sensor. Have a rag ready to catch any minor fuel spillage.
Installation
Thread the new fuel temperature sensor into the housing. Tighten it to the specified torque (do not overtighten, as the brass threads can shear).
Reconnect
Plug the electrical connector back in, ensuring it clicks securely into place.
Bleed the System
If a significant amount of fuel was lost or air entered the lines, use the manual primer pump to bleed the fuel system.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the EDT/WinEEM diagnostic tool, save the error log, and then erase the E174.00 fault code. Restart the ECU/tractor to confirm the code does not return.
