Massey Ferguson E1761.04 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): DEF Tank Level Sender Low Voltage

The system has detected that the voltage signal from the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank level sensor is below normal or below the lower limit. This typically indicates a short circuit to ground (low source) within the sensor or its wiring circuit.

   Inspect the 3-wire DEF tank level sensor circuit for a short to ground (low source). Look for chafed wires rubbing against the chassis.

   Disconnect the DEF header/sensor connector and check for moisture, corrosion, or pushed-back pins.

   Inspect the DEF tank for white crystal buildup or contamination, which can sometimes interfere with sensor readings.

   Verify that the ECU is supplying the correct reference voltage (typically 5V) to the sensor.

   Clear the Log

   Save the error log in your diagnostic tool, then erase the active codes.

   Repair Wiring

   If a short to ground was found during the diagnostic checks, repair the damaged section of the wiring harness and secure it away from abrasion points.

   Replace the Sensor/Header

   If the wiring and reference voltage test good, the DEF tank level sensor itself is internally shorted and defective. In most modern Massey Ferguson/AGCO applications, the level sensor is integrated into the DEF Header unit and must be replaced as an assembly.

   Reboot and Verify

   After replacing the sensor or repairing the wiring, restart the ECU (cycle the key) to verify that the fault code does not return and that the DEF level reads correctly on the dash.
