Massey Ferguson 1761.11 – Engine ECU: DEF Tank Level Sensor Issue
Issue description
The Aftertreatment Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) tank level has fallen below the critical warning level, or the sensor itself is sending an erroneous 'empty' signal due to an electrical or mechanical fault.

Check the cause
Verify DEF fluid level and quality to ensure the tank is not actually empty and contains a clean 32.5% urea solution.
Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading to the DEF tank level sensor for open circuits, low voltage, or shorts.
Check the DEF tank cap and breather to ensure the cap is sound and the breather is clear from dust and moisture.
Inspect the DEF pump/header module, heated lines, and quick connectors for kinks, rub points, or damaged O-rings.
Repair steps
Refill or Drain/Clean
If the tank is simply empty, refill it with fresh, uncontaminated DEF. If contamination is found, drain the tank completely, flush it, and replace the DEF filter.
Repair Wiring
If diagnostic testing reveals a short or open circuit in the harness, repair or replace the damaged wiring leading to the sensor.
Replace the Sensor/Header
If the wiring is intact, the fluid is clean/full, and the code persists, the DEF tank level sensor (or the integrated DEF header unit) is defective and must be replaced.
Clear the ECU
Once the physical repair is complete, connect a diagnostic service tool (such as WinEEM3s/EEM4 or AGCO EDT). Save the error log, and then erase it.
Restart the ECU
Restart the ECU/tractor after erasing the error log to clear the active fault and remove the engine power derate.
Parts you might need
(4)DEF Tank Level Sensor / DEF Header Unit
The level sensor is typically part of the DEF header/pump module that drops into the tank. A specific OEM part number must be looked up by the tractor's specific VIN/serial in the AGCO parts catalog.
DEF Filter
ACP0594170Highly recommended to replace the DEF filter if the tank was run dry or contaminated.
