1B.01.04

Massey Ferguson 1B.01.04 – Linkage/PTO/Light Module: Issue With The LIN BUS Communication Between Linkage/PTO/Light Module On The B-Pillar And The B-Pillar Button Panel.

Issue description

This indicates a communication failure on the local interconnect network (LIN bus) circuit that allows the physical button panel on the cab's B-Pillar to talk to the Linkage/PTO/Light control module.

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Remove the B-Pillar trim to access the Linkage/PTO/Light Module and the Button Panel. Inspect the wiring harness connecting the two components for chafing, pinching, or rodent damage.

  2. Connector Check: Disconnect the plugs at both the Button Panel and the Module. Check for bent pins, corrosion, or pushed-out terminals.

  3. Continuity & Voltage Testing: Using a multimeter, check the LIN bus signal wire for continuity between the panel and the module. Verify that the circuit is not shorted to ground or shorted to voltage.

  4. Power and Ground: Ensure the B-Pillar Button Panel is receiving proper operating voltage and has a clean ground connection. A loss of power to the panel will cause it to drop off the LIN bus, triggering this code.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Access the B-Pillar

Carefully pry or unscrew the interior trim covering the right-hand B-Pillar to expose the electronic modules and wiring.

  3. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken or shorted LIN bus wire, repair the wire using proper soldering and heat-shrink tubing, or replace the B-Pillar sub-harness.

  4. Replace Components (If Wiring is Intact)

If the wiring, power, and grounds test perfectly, the communication failure is internal to either the Button Panel (acting as the LIN slave) or the Linkage/PTO/Light Module (acting as the LIN master). Swap the Button Panel first, as it is the most common point of physical wear.

  5. Reassembly & Clearing Codes

Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 1B.01.04 code. Test the PTO and linkage buttons on the B-Pillar to confirm communication is restored.
