Massey Ferguson 1B.01.09 – Linkage/PTO/Light Module on the B-Pillar: Issue With Signal From Hitch Drop Rate Control Dial
Issue description
This fault code indicates that the tractor's electronic control system is receiving an invalid, missing, or out-of-range electrical signal from the potentiometer (dial) that controls the 3-point hitch drop rate (lowering speed). When this code is active, the system cannot accurately determine how fast the operator wants the hitch to lower, which may cause the hitch to default to a safe mode (e.g., locking out or dropping at a fixed, slow rate).

Check the cause
Visually inspect the hitch drop rate control dial on the right-hand B-pillar or side armrest console for physical damage or sticking.
Remove the console trim to access the back of the dial, disconnect the wiring harness, and check for corroded pins, moisture ingress, or loose connections.
Test the potentiometer using a multimeter by measuring the resistance across its pins while slowly turning the dial. Resistance should change smoothly without dead spots or infinite resistance spikes.
Check the continuity of the wiring harness between the dial's connector and the Linkage/PTO/Light Module.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
Access the Module
Carefully pry up or unscrew the trim panel on the B-pillar or side console where the hitch control dials are located.
Remove the Dial
Pull the plastic knob off the front of the drop rate dial.
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the potentiometer.
Extract the Potentiometer
Remove the retaining nut or mounting clips holding the potentiometer to the console panel and pull the unit out.
Install the New Part
Insert the new potentiometer, secure it with the retaining nut, and press the plastic knob back onto the shaft.
Reconnect
Plug the electrical harness back in and reinstall the console trim panel.
Calibrate/Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on and use a diagnostic tool to clear the 1B.01.09 fault code. Test the hitch to ensure the drop rate adjusts correctly when the dial is turned.
