Massey Ferguson 1B.02.08 – Linkage/PTO/Light Module On The B-Pillar: Issue With Signal From Hitch Maximum Height Dial
Issue description
This code indicates an electrical fault—such as an out-of-range voltage, open circuit, or short circuit—coming from the potentiometer (dial) that the operator uses to set the maximum lift height of the rear 3-point hitch.

Check the cause
Inspect the Hitch Maximum Height Dial on the B-pillar/control console for physical damage, sticking, or excessive wear.
Inspect the wiring harness running between the dial and the Linkage/PTO/Light Module on the B-Pillar. Look for chafed wires, loose connections, or corroded/bent pins at the connector.
Perform a potentiometer sweep test: Disconnect the dial and use a digital multimeter (set to Ohms) across the terminals. Slowly turn the dial from minimum to maximum. The resistance should change smoothly and consistently. If the reading jumps erratically, drops to zero, or shows an open circuit, the potentiometer has failed.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.
Access the Module
Remove the interior cab trim panel or armrest console cover where the Hitch Maximum Height Dial is mounted (typically located near the B-pillar or right-hand control console).
Disconnect
Unplug the 3-wire electrical connector from the back of the faulty dial.
Remove
Unclip or unscrew the retaining nut holding the dial to the console panel and pull the switch out.
Replace
Insert the new Hitch Maximum Height Dial into the panel, secure it, and plug in the electrical connector.
Reassemble
Reinstall the cab trim panels and reconnect the tractor's battery.
Clear Codes & Test
Turn the ignition on, clear the 1B.02.08 fault code using the tractor's diagnostic interface, and test the rear hitch to ensure it stops at the newly set maximum height limits.
Parts you might need
(1)Hitch Maximum Height Dial / 3-Point Hitch Lift Control Potentiometer
Ensure you are purchasing the electronic potentiometer dial for the maximum height limit, not the draft control or drop rate dials, as they may have different resistance values despite looking similar.
