Massey Ferguson 27.06 – Engine ECU: Engine EGR Valve Issue With EGR Valve (ECU) / EGR Valve Overload
Issue description
The system has detected an electrical overload on the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve circuit (Current Above Normal or Grounded Circuit). This means the actuator motor is drawing too much amperage, which is typically caused by either a direct electrical short to ground in the wiring/actuator, or severe mechanical binding (such as heavy soot buildup) that forces the actuator motor to overwork.

Check the cause
Check the wiring harness leading to the EGR valve for chafing, melted insulation, or pinched wires that could cause a short circuit to ground.
Test the EGR valve actuator pins with a multimeter to check for an internal short circuit.
Remove the EGR valve and inspect the internal flap/valve for heavy carbon or soot buildup causing mechanical binding.
Verify that the Engine ECU has the latest software flash installed, as outdated parameters can sometimes cause false overload triggers.
Repair steps
Preparation
Turn off the machine and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical damage.
Access the Valve
Locate the EGR valve assembly on the engine (usually mounted near the exhaust manifold and EGR cooler).
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical harness connector from the EGR valve actuator.
Removal
Remove the mounting bolts or nuts securing the EGR valve to the EGR cooler and intake/exhaust piping. Carefully remove the valve, ensuring you do not bend or damage the bellows hot pipe.
Cleaning (Optional First Step)
Clean the EGR valve and the adjoining passages of soot and carbon. Reinstall and test. If the code resets, the actuator motor is permanently damaged and the valve must be replaced.
Installation
Install the new EGR valve over the mounting studs using new OEM gaskets.
Torque
Tighten the mounting hardware to OEM specifications (e.g., typically 22-26 N·m or 16-19 lb·ft depending on the exact engine model).
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery.
Clear Codes
Use a diagnostic service tool (like AGCO EDT) to clear the 000027.06 / SPN 27 FMI 6 fault code and run the engine to ensure the code does not return.
