Massey Ferguson 27.11 – Engine Module (ECU): The Engine Module (ECU) Has Noted The Engine Is Overheating. The EGR Valve Is Closed.
Issue description
This code indicates that the engine coolant temperature has exceeded safe operating limits. As a protective measure, the ECU automatically commands the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve to close. Because recirculating hot exhaust gases into the intake manifold increases the thermal load on the engine, shutting the EGR valve helps reduce combustion temperatures and prevents further heat buildup. The closed EGR valve is a protective symptom of the overheating, not necessarily the root cause.

Check the cause
Check the coolant reservoir level and look for external leaks around hoses, the water pump, and the radiator
Inspect the radiator and cooling package for blockages caused by dirt, chaff, or agricultural debris
Check for signs of a failing EGR cooler (internal leaks consuming coolant, white steam/smoke from exhaust)
Verify the water pump is circulating coolant efficiently and that the thermostat is opening at the correct temperature
Check for secondary DTCs related to the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor to ensure the ECU isn't receiving a false overheating reading
Repair steps
Cool Down
Park the tractor on a level surface and allow the engine to cool completely before opening the cooling system.
Clean the Cooling Package
Use compressed air or low-pressure water to blow out the radiator fins and cooling matrix.
Pressure Test
Apply a pressure tester to the cooling system to identify any hidden external leaks or internal pressure drops.
Component Replacement
If the thermostat is stuck closed or the water pump impeller is damaged, drain the coolant, replace the faulty component, and refill the system. If the EGR cooler has failed internally (causing the coolant loss and subsequent overheating), replace the EGR cooler/module assembly.
Bleed the System
Ensure all air pockets are bled from the cooling system after refilling with OEM-approved coolant.
Clear Codes
Connect a diagnostic scan tool to the tractor and clear the 000027.11 fault code.
Test Drive
Run the tractor under a working load to verify that the operating temperature remains stable and the ECU resumes normal EGR operation.
