Massey Ferguson E2791.31 – Engine ECU (AGCO SISU POWER EEM4): EGR Valve not present / EGR Valve Calibration Change Over A Long Time / EGR Valve Actuator Slow Response

The engine controller is unable to detect the Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve on the communication bus, or the valve's actuator is failing to respond to calibration/learn routines commanded by the controller.

   Disconnect the EGR valve electrical connector and inspect for damage, corrosion, pushed-out pins, or fretting

   Inspect the EGR valve system hardware (actuator, lever, and pull rod) to ensure the pull rod is firmly tightened with no slack

   Disconnect the pull rod and move the EGR valve back and forth by hand to ensure it moves freely from end stop to end stop without binding

   With the pull rod disconnected, turn the ignition ON (Key ON, Engine OFF) and monitor the EGR actuator to see if it attempts to move

   Connect the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) and attempt to run the 'EGR Slow Learn' routine to see if it fails to start or complete

   Power Down

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable.

   Harness Repair

   If the diagnostic checks revealed wiring damage, repair the affected wires or replace the pigtail connector. Re-test before proceeding.

   Remove Linkage

   If the valve or actuator is faulty, remove the retaining clips/bolts holding the pull rod and spacer (if equipped).

   Replace the EGR Valve/Actuator

   Unbolt the EGR valve assembly from the exhaust manifold/intake plumbing. Clean the mating surfaces thoroughly. Install the new EGR valve using new gaskets and torque the bolts to OEM specifications.

   Reassemble

   Reinstall the pull rod, ensuring correct orientation (some rods are stamped with a 'V' for the valve side and an 'S' for the actuator side).

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back into the EGR actuator. Reconnect the battery.

7. 7

   Calibration

   Connect the diagnostic tool and perform the 'EGR Slow Learn' routine so the ECU can calibrate the new valve's end stops.

8. 8

   Clear and Verify

   Clear the E2791.31 fault code. Start the engine, bring it up to operating temperature, and verify the code does not return.
