3.01.19

Massey Ferguson 3.01.19 – MFA (Multifunction Armrest): CAN Bus Message From Joystick Controls On Arm Rest (MFA)

Issue description

The main tractor controller is not receiving a valid CAN bus communication signal from the electronic joystick located on the armrest. This means the joystick's inputs (used for hydraulics, transmission, or loader functions) are not being transmitted to the network, or the data packets are corrupted/missing.

Applies to these machines

  • 5710SL
  • 5711SL
  • 5712SL
  • 5713SL
  • T4
  • 5700 S / SL Series
  • 6700 S Series
  • 7600 Series
  • 7700 Series and 7700 S Series
  • 8700 Series (Datatronic 5 equipped)

Check the cause

  1. Remove the armrest cover and inspect the physical wiring harness connecting the joystick to the MFA module for pinched wires, chafing, or disconnected plugs

  2. Disconnect the joystick and inspect the pins for corrosion, bent pins, or moisture intrusion

  3. Verify that the joystick is receiving its stabilized 5V and 10V reference voltage from the MFA module

  4. Connect a diagnostic tool and monitor the joystick's X and Y axis inputs to see if values change when moved

  5. Check if the MFA module requires a software flash due to corrupted EEPROM parameters

Repair steps

  1. Connect Diagnostic Tool

Plug the AGCO EDT (Electronic Diagnostic Tool) or Jaltest into the tractor's diagnostic port.

  2. Clear and Verify

Read the active fault codes. Clear 03.00.19 and cycle the ignition. If the code returns immediately, it is a hard fault (wiring or hardware failure).

  3. Test Continuity

Using a multimeter, test the continuity of the CAN High and CAN Low wires between the joystick's pigtail connector and the main MFA module board.

  4. Replace the Joystick

If the wiring harness has continuity, the connector pins are clean, and the joystick still fails to broadcast a CAN message, the internal electronic board of the joystick has failed. Remove the mounting screws securing the joystick to the armrest and install the replacement unit.

  5. Perform Joystick Calibration

A new joystick will not work out of the box. You must use the AGCO EDT or Jaltest tool to perform the 'MFA armrest control system, joystick calibration' procedure. This teaches the MFA the new joystick's center, maximum X, and maximum Y voltage values.

  6. Final Test

Clear all fault codes and test the tractor's hydraulic/transmission functions via the joystick to ensure full operation.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Electronic Control System Joystick (MFA CAN Bus)

    ACP0525790

Genuine AGCO Parts Electronic Control System Joystick. Do not confuse with older mechanical/cable-operated loader joysticks (e.g., part number 1081314M91), which will not work for this application.

  • Control Joystick

    ACP0353190

Plug & Play replacement for T-Bar Control Lever on certain MFA configurations.
