Massey Ferguson 3.01.84 – Autotronic 5 TECU: Issue With TECU Module (TECU)

A general malfunction, internal failure, or communication loss within the tractor's main electronic control unit (Autotronic 5 TECU). It often triggers when the module experiences an internal fault, loses its vehicle electronic identification (VIN/ISO address), or detects an abnormal voltage supply.

   Verify the 12V supply and ground connections to the Autotronic 5 TECU (specifically at connector X104) for voltage drops

   Check for related armrest (AR) sub-codes that point to specific electrical faults (e.g., AR 01, AR 02, AR 240)

   Inspect the CAN bus communication lines between the TECU, the armrest keypad, and the instrument cluster for continuity and proper resistance (typically 60 ohms across the network)

   Connect a compatible diagnostic tool to read real-time ECU data, check the software version, and verify if the TECU is broadcasting its ISO address

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery via the battery isolator switch to prevent electrical spikes.

   Inspect Wiring

   Locate the Autotronic 5 TECU. Disconnect the main harnesses (including connector X104) and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or pushed-out terminals.

   Clean and Reconnect

   Clean the contacts with electronic contact cleaner, apply dielectric grease, and securely reconnect the harnesses. Re-test the machine to see if the code clears.

   Replace the Module

   If wiring is intact, power/ground is verified, and the module still fails to communicate or throws the 03.01.84 internal error, the TECU must be replaced.

   Programming and Calibration

   Install the new TECU. A dealer-level diagnostic tool must be used to flash the correct software, input the vehicle's electronic identification (VIN), and perform mandatory technical releases/calibrations (e.g., cab suspension calibration, transmission pedal/clutch calibration, and torque sensor calibration).
