3.01.8A

Massey Ferguson 3.01.8A – TECU (Tractor Electronic Control Unit): High Amp Draw On Auxiliary Valve Switch 4 (TECU)

Issue description

Short circuit to 0 V (Ground). The controller is detecting an excessive current draw on the circuit for the 4th auxiliary valve switch, meaning the signal wire is likely shorted directly to ground.

Applies to these machines

  • 5710SL
  • 5711SL
  • 5712SL
  • 5713SL
  • T4
  • 4707
  • 4708
  • 4709
  • 4710
  • 5608–5613
  • 5710SL–5713SL
  • 6700S Series
  • 7614–7626
  • 7714–7726 (including S models)
  • 8600 Series

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the physical condition of the Auxiliary Valve 4 FingerTIP switch for sticking, damage, or liquid intrusion

  2. Disconnect the battery and perform a wiring harness continuity test on the signal wire between the switch and the TECU to check for continuity to ground

  3. Check the wiring harness routing inside the armrest and cab console for pinch points or rubbed-through insulation

  4. Inspect the TECU connector pins (specifically X104 on Autotronic 5) for bent pins, corrosion, or melting

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent further electrical damage.

  2. Access the Armrest

Remove the protective covers from the armrest console to expose the FingerTIP switches and the internal wiring harness.

  3. Isolate the Short

If your diagnostic checks revealed a short to ground in the wiring harness, locate the damaged section. Splice and solder a new section of wire, sealing it with heat-shrink tubing, or replace the affected harness sub-assembly.

  4. Replace the Switch (If Faulty)

If the wiring tests good but the switch itself has internal continuity to ground when it shouldn't, unplug the faulty Auxiliary Valve 4 switch, unclip it from the armrest bezel, and snap the replacement switch into place.

  5. Replace the TECU (Worst Case)

If both the switch and wiring are perfectly intact, the internal driver inside the TECU may be shorted. In this case, the TECU must be replaced and reprogrammed by a dealer.

  6. Reassembly & Clearing Codes

Reconnect all components, restore battery power, and use a diagnostic tool to clear the inactive 3.01.8A / 03.00.8A fault code. Test the operation of Auxiliary Valve 4 to ensure the code does not return.

Parts you might need

(4)
  • TECU Module

    7102493M1

Fitment note: TECU modules are highly specific to the tractor's configuration and will require dealer calibration/programming upon installation

  • TECU Module

    700730581

Fitment note: TECU modules are highly specific to the tractor's configuration and will require dealer calibration/programming upon installation

  • Auxiliary Valve Switch 4 (FingerTIP Switch)

Specific OEM part number varies heavily by exact armrest configuration and tractor serial number; must be sourced via dealer parts catalog using the machine's VIN

  • Armrest Wiring Harness

Replace only if the short circuit is located within the harness and cannot be repaired
