Massey Ferguson 3.01.9E – MFA (Multi-Function Armrest): Issue With Hand Throttle On Arm Rest Signal Voltage

The electronic control system is receiving an erratic, out-of-range, or missing electrical voltage signal from the potentiometer/sensor attached to the hand throttle lever on the tractor's armrest.

   Perform a physical inspection of the hand throttle lever on the armrest for physical damage, binding, or excessive play that might prevent the sensor from reading correctly.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the hand throttle sensor and the MFA module for chafed wires, pinched harnesses inside the armrest console, or loose/corroded pins.

   Perform a voltage sweep test using a multimeter or diagnostic tool to monitor the signal voltage from the hand throttle potentiometer. Slowly move the throttle from minimum to maximum; voltage should change smoothly without drop-offs, spikes, or dead spots.

   Verify calibration data, as the MFA module may have lost its calibration (e.g., EEPROM checksum error). Check if the tractor's terminal allows running a throttle calibration routine before condemning hardware.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts while working inside the armrest.

   Access the MFA

   Carefully remove the plastic trim and retaining screws on the right-hand Multi-Function Armrest console to expose the internal electronics and the base of the hand throttle lever.

   Disconnect the Sensor

   Locate the electrical connector for the hand throttle potentiometer and unplug it.

   Remove the Faulty Throttle

   Unbolt the retaining hardware holding the hand throttle assembly to the armrest chassis and remove the unit.

   Install the New Part

   Seat the replacement hand throttle control lever into the armrest and secure it with the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical harness back into the new sensor, ensuring the locking tab clicks into place.

   Reassemble

   Reinstall the armrest console covers and trim pieces. Reconnect the tractor's battery.

   Calibrate

   Turn the ignition on. You must perform a hand throttle calibration procedure (often done via the Datatronic screen or an AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool) so the MFA module can learn the new sensor's minimum and maximum voltage limits.

   Clear Codes

   Clear the 3.01.9E fault code from the system memory and test the throttle operation to confirm the repair.
