Massey Ferguson 3.02.1A – MFA (Multi-Function Armrest) Module: CAN Bus Message From Spool Valve Controls 1 And 2 On Arm Rest (MFA)
Issue description
Communication failure on the CAN bus indicating the main controller is not receiving the expected data messages from the physical switches, fingertip controls, or joystick that operate auxiliary spool valves 1 and 2 located on the tractor's armrest.

Check the cause
Remove the armrest cover and visually inspect the wiring harness connecting the spool valve 1 & 2 fingertip controls/joystick to the MFA module for pinched wires, chafing, or disconnected plugs.
Disconnect the plugs at the spool valve controls and the MFA. Check for bent pins, pushed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture.
Using a multimeter, check the resistance of the CAN High and CAN Low wires between the spool valve control sub-module and the MFA to ensure there are no open circuits or shorts to ground/power.
Verify that the spool valve control switches are receiving the correct reference voltage (usually 5V or 10V) and ground from the MFA/TECU.
Connect a diagnostic tool (such as AGCO EDT or Jaltest) to check if the MFA module requires a software update or if the spool valve controls/joystick lost their calibration parameters.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the Armrest Internals
Carefully remove the plastic housing/trim of the Multi-Function Armrest to expose the MFA module and the underside of the spool valve controls.
Clean and Reseat Connections
If diagnostic checks revealed dirty or loose connectors, spray them with a high-quality electrical contact cleaner, let them dry, and securely reconnect them. Ensure the locking tabs click into place.
Replace Faulty Component
If the wiring is intact but the CAN bus signal is dead at the switch level, the spool valve control unit (fingertip module or joystick) has failed internally. Unscrew the mounting hardware, disconnect the pigtail, and install the replacement unit.
Reassemble and Power Up
Reinstall the armrest trim and reconnect the tractor battery. Turn the ignition to the ON position.
Clear Codes and Calibrate
Connect your AGCO EDT or compatible diagnostic tool. Clear the inactive 03.02.1A fault code. You must perform a joystick/spool valve calibration routine via the diagnostic tool or the tractor's Datatronic terminal so the MFA learns the new component's neutral, minimum, and maximum travel positions.
Test Operation
Start the tractor and actuate spool valves 1 and 2 to ensure proper hydraulic flow and that the fault code does not return.
