3.03.87

Massey Ferguson 3.03.87 – TECU (Tractor Electronic Control Unit): High Voltage On Auxiliary Valve Switch 3 (TECU) / Calibration Issue For Valve Switch 3 (TECU)

Issue description

The controller is detecting a short circuit to 12V on the circuit for Auxiliary Valve Switch 3, or the switch has fallen out of its calibrated operating range.

Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness running from the armrest/joystick (specifically the FingerTIP 3 or Auxiliary Valve 3 switch) to the TECU for rubbed, pinched, or exposed wires causing a short to a 12V power source.

  2. Test the Auxiliary Valve Switch 3 for internal shorts using a multimeter.

  3. Attempt to recalibrate the valve switch via the tractor's Datatronic terminal or a dealer diagnostic tool (like Jaltest) before replacing hard parts.

  4. Inspect the TECU module connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or bent pins that could be bridging a 12V circuit to the switch signal pin.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical spikes during repair.

  2. Isolate the Short

If the diagnostic checks revealed a short to 12V in the armrest harness, repair the damaged wire or replace the affected harness section.

  3. Replace the Switch

If the switch itself is internally shorted, disassemble the armrest joystick/FingerTIP console and replace Auxiliary Valve Switch 3.

  4. Recalibrate

Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position and use the in-cab display (or a diagnostic tool) to run the calibration procedure for the auxiliary valves.

  5. TECU Replacement

If the wiring and switch test perfectly fine but the code persists, the TECU module may have an internal short and will need to be replaced and flashed by a dealer.
