3.03.A1

Massey Ferguson 3.03.A1 – MFA (Multifunction Armrest): Issue With Speed Control Lever Position Sensor On Armrest Signal Voltage (MFA)

Issue description

This fault code indicates an electrical issue with the Speed Control Lever Position Sensor located on the armrest. The controller is detecting an abnormal signal voltage from the sensor (typically a voltage that is out of range, indicating a short to ground, a short to power, or an open circuit). When the signal fails, the tractor cannot determine the commanded speed or direction.

Applies to these machines

  • 5710SL
  • 5711SL
  • 5712SL
  • 5713SL
  • T4
  • 5700 S / SL Series
  • 6700 S Series
  • 7600 Series
  • 7700 / 7700 S Series
  • 8600 Series
  • 8700 Series

Check the cause

  1. Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the speed control lever (joystick) and the MFA module inside the armrest. Look for pinched wires, corrosion, or loose pins.

  2. Voltage Check: Verify that the sensor is receiving its 5V reference and ground from the MFA module.

  3. Live Data Monitoring: Connect a diagnostic tool (such as AGCO EDT or Jaltest) and monitor the live voltage readings of the speed control lever position sensor while moving the lever. If the voltage drops out, spikes, or remains static, the sensor is faulty.

  4. Attempt Calibration: Use the diagnostic tool to attempt a calibration of the spool valve control lever / joystick. If the calibration fails immediately due to out-of-range values, the sensor/joystick must be replaced.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the MFA

Remove the retaining screws and carefully lift the top cover of the multifunction armrest to access the internal MFA module and joystick wiring.

  3. Disconnect the Sensor

Locate the electrical connector for the speed control lever/joystick and disconnect it.

  4. Remove the Joystick

Unbolt the speed control lever assembly from the armrest housing. (The position sensor is typically integrated into the joystick assembly and is not serviced separately).

  5. Install the New Part

Mount the replacement joystick assembly into the armrest and secure the bolts.

  6. Reconnect Wiring

Plug the electrical connector back into the MFA harness.

  7. Reassemble

Reinstall the armrest cover and reconnect the battery.

  8. System Calibration

You must connect a diagnostic tool and run the MFA armrest system joystick calibration procedure. This teaches the MFA module the minimum, maximum, and center voltage values of the new sensor. The tractor will not operate correctly until this calibration is successfully completed.
