Issue description
The TECU generates a regulated 10-volt reference supply used to power various sensors, potentiometers, and control dials across the tractor (such as the hitch depth control dial, hand throttle, and speed control lever position sensors). This code triggers when the 10V output is outside of its expected voltage range, which typically indicates a short circuit to ground (0V), a short circuit to battery voltage (12V), or an internal failure of the TECU's power supply circuit.

Check the cause
Check TECU Power and Ground: Verify that the main system voltage (12V) and ground connections to the Autotronic 5 TECU are clean and secure.
Isolate the 10V Circuit: Disconnect the main harness connector at the TECU that houses the 10V reference pin. Measure the voltage directly at the TECU output pin. If it reads a steady 10V with the harness unplugged, the TECU is functioning correctly, and the fault is in the wiring or a sensor.
Check for Harness Shorts: With the battery disconnected, use a multimeter to check the 10V supply wire in the harness for continuity to ground (short to ground) or continuity to the 12V power wires (short to power).
Sensor Disconnect Test: The 10V supply feeds multiple inputs on the armrest and B-pillar (e.g., hitch draft control dial, hand throttle, auxiliary valve switches). Reconnect the harness and unplug these sensors one by one. If the 10V supply returns to normal after unplugging a specific sensor, that sensor is internally shorted and needs replacement.
Repair steps
Resolve Wiring/Sensor Shorts
If the diagnostic checks reveal a shorted sensor (like a hitch dial or throttle potentiometer) or a rubbed-through wire in the armrest harness, replace the faulty sensor or repair the damaged wiring section. Clear the codes and cycle the key to verify the 10V supply is restored.
Access the TECU
If the TECU itself is failing to output 10V (internal failure), it must be replaced. The TECU is typically located under the cab floor or behind the right-hand pillar/console depending on the specific tractor series.
Remove the TECU
Disconnect the negative battery terminal. Carefully unplug the multi-pin connectors (e.g., X104 connector) from the Autotronic 5 module. Unbolt the module from its mounting bracket.
Install the New TECU
Mount the replacement TECU and reconnect the wiring harnesses.
Programming/Calibration
A new TECU will require dealer-level diagnostic software (like the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool) to flash the correct firmware, input the tractor's VIN/electronic identification, and calibrate the transmission and hydraulic valves.
