Massey Ferguson 3.X.86 – TECU: High Amp Draw On Auxiliary Valve Switch 3 (TECU)
Issue description
The controller has detected a current draw on the circuit for the #3 auxiliary hydraulic valve switch that exceeds the normal operating limits. The system specifically flags this as a 'Short circuit 0 V', meaning the signal wire for the switch is shorted directly to ground.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness between the TECU and the Auxiliary Valve Switch 3 for chafed insulation, pinched wires, or exposed copper touching the metal frame (short to ground).
Disconnect the connector for Auxiliary Valve Switch 3, turn the key on, and check active fault codes. If the code changes to a 'High Voltage / Short circuit to 12 V' (AR 32 / 03.01.87), the wiring is intact and the switch itself is internally shorted.
Test the switch using a digital multimeter for internal continuity to ground when it is in the neutral position.
Inspect the TECU and switch connectors for moisture, corrosion, or bent pins that could be bridging the circuit to a ground pin.
Repair steps
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.
Remove the retaining screws for the armrest control panel/console cover to access the underside of the joystick and fingertip switches.
Locate Auxiliary Valve Switch 3 (the third fingertip switch in the bank).
Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the faulty switch.
Unclip or unscrew the switch module from the armrest housing.
Snap the new OEM fingertip switch into the housing and reconnect the electrical harness.
Reassemble the armrest console cover, ensuring no wires are pinched in the process.
Reconnect the battery, power on the tractor, and clear the stored fault codes.
Actuate the #3 auxiliary valve to verify normal operation and ensure the code does not return.
