Check the cause

  1. Inspect the FingerTIP switch 3 on the armrest console for physical damage, sticking, or moisture intrusion (a common cause of internal shorts).

  2. Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to test the wiring harness between the switch and the TECU (Armrest Autotronic 5) for a short to a 12V power source.

  3. Test the switch itself for an internal short circuit.

  4. Attempt to recalibrate the valve switch via the tractor's terminal/display before replacing any hard parts.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the tractor's battery negative terminal to prevent electrical damage during the repair.

  2. Access the Armrest

Remove the retaining screws and carefully lift the cladding/cover of the armrest console to access the FingerTIP joystick and switch assembly.

  3. Isolate the Circuit

Disconnect the electrical connector specifically routed to Auxiliary Valve Switch 3.

  4. Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

If your diagnostic checks revealed a short to 12V in the harness, trace the wire back to the TECU junction and repair the chafed or melted section of the wire.

  5. Replace the Switch (If Applicable)

If the switch is internally shorted, remove the mounting hardware (screws/spacers) holding the switch to the support plate and install the replacement switch.

  6. Reassemble

Reconnect the switch harness, secure the switch to the support plate, and reinstall the armrest console cover.

  7. Recalibrate

Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on and use the tractor's diagnostic display (or dealer software like Wintest/Jaltest) to perform the mandatory calibration procedure for Valve Switch 3.

Parts you might need

(5)
  • Auxiliary Valve Switch / FingerTIP Switch (Indirect Switch)

    4291980M1

Exact part numbers vary slightly depending on the tractor series and armrest configuration; these are verified for the 8400 series armrest. Weather-resistant push-release switch for electro-hydraulic lift/spool control.

  • Auxiliary Valve Switch / FingerTIP Switch (Indirect Switch)

  • TECU Module (Armrest Autotronic 5)

    7102493M1

Only replace if the short circuit is isolated internally to the TECU board itself and not the switch or harness.
