Massey Ferguson E3031.03 – Engine ECU: Issue With The Temperature Of The DEF Tank Temperature Sensor. (ECU)

The Electronic Engine Management (EEM) system has detected that the value coming from the DEF (Diesel Exhaust Fluid / AdBlue) tank temperature sensor is implausible or timing out.

   Check the connector at the DEF tank temperature sensor (located on the DEF tank header unit) for loose pins, corrosion, or poor seating.

   Trace the wiring harness from the DEF tank sensor back to the Engine ECU. Look for chafed wires, kinks, or breaks.

   Verify sensor failure: If the wiring and connections are fully intact and providing proper continuity, the fault lies within the sensor itself.

   Access the DEF Tank

   Locate the DEF tank and thoroughly clean the area around the DEF pump module and sensor header to prevent dirt or debris from contaminating the system.

   Wiring Repair (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed damaged wiring or a loose connector, repair the wiring harness or replace the connector pigtail.

   Sensor Replacement (If Applicable)

   If the wiring is sound, the DEF tank temperature sensor (which is typically integrated into the DEF tank header/sensor unit) must be replaced. Disconnect the heated supply/return lines and electrical connectors, remove the mounting hardware, and extract the old sensor unit. Install the new OEM sensor unit, ensuring the O-rings are seated properly to prevent air ingress or contamination.

   Clear the Error Log

   Once the physical repair is complete, use a service tool (such as the WinEEM3s/WinEEM4s Service Tool) to first save the error log and then erase the active fault to restore full engine power and clear the derate.
