Massey Ferguson E3031.10 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EEM4: Issue With The Temperature Of The DEF Tank Temperature Sensor

DEF tank temperature abnormal rate of change at heating cycle. Triggered if the DEF tank heating request is enabled but the temperature sensor registers no change in temperature during the heating cycle.

   Verify engine coolant flow to the DEF tank heating element is not restricted by a blocked line, kinked hose, or stuck heater control valve

   Check the DEF tank temperature sensor wiring harness for loose contacts, chafing, or broken wires

   Test the DEF tank temperature sensor for proper resistance and voltage scaling to determine if it has failed internally

   Save and Clear

   Save the error log in your diagnostic tool and then erase the inactive codes.

   Inspect Heating Circuit

   Trace the coolant lines running to the DEF tank heater. Ensure the coolant valve opens when commanded and that hot coolant is physically reaching the tank during a heating cycle. Repair any blockages or replace the coolant valve if it is stuck closed.

   Inspect Harness

   Disconnect the DEF tank header connector. Inspect the pins for corrosion or pushed-out terminals. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary.

   Replace Sensor/Header

   If the coolant circuit is functioning perfectly and the wiring is intact, the DEF tank temperature sensor is defective. Extract the old header unit and install a new DEF Tank Header Assembly.

   Verify Repair

   Reconnect the harness, clear the E3031.10 code, and run the tractor through a cold-start/heating cycle to ensure the ECU registers a temperature change and the code does not return.
