Massey Ferguson E3361.14 – Engine ECU: DEF Injector Has Not Opened Or Closed As Expected

Mechanical or electrical malfunction where the Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) dosing valve (injector) is failing to actuate properly, meaning it is either stuck open, stuck closed, or physically blocked from moving.

   Remove the injector and inspect the tip for heavy urea crystallization that could physically block the nozzle and prevent the pintle from opening or closing.

   Check DEF quality to ensure it is clean and ISO-compliant, as contaminated fluid can damage the nozzle and restrict flow.

   Inspect the electrical harness and connectors leading to the DEF injector for chafing, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Check for exhaust leaks around the injector mounting boss that could cause abnormal heat exposure to the doser.

   Preparation

   Ensure the tractor is turned off, the battery is disconnected, and the exhaust system has completely cooled down to prevent burns.

   Locate the Injector

   Locate the DEF injector dosing module, which is mounted directly to the exhaust pipe near the SCR catalyst.

   Disconnect Lines

   Carefully unplug the electrical harness connector from the DEF injector. Next, disconnect the DEF fluid supply line (be prepared with a rag to catch minor fluid spillage).

   Remove the Injector

   Remove the mounting hardware (usually a V-band clamp or mounting bolts) securing the injector to the exhaust system.

   Clean or Replace

   If the injector tip is heavily crystallized, attempt to clean it using warm distilled water (do not use harsh chemicals or wire brushes). If the injector is clean but still throws the E3361.14 code, the internal solenoid has failed and the unit must be replaced.

   Install New Injector

   Mount the new DEF injector to the exhaust pipe using a new OEM gasket/seal to prevent exhaust leaks. Tighten the clamp or bolts to OEM torque specs.

   Reconnect

   Reattach the DEF fluid supply line and plug in the electrical connector.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery. Use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the E3361.14 fault code from the Engine ECU.

   Test

   Start the tractor and allow it to reach operating temperature. If your diagnostic tool allows, run a forced stationary SCR dosing test to verify the new injector is spraying correctly and that there are no leaks.
