3573.13

Massey Ferguson 3573.13 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Air Throttle Valve Position Sensor Calibration Issue

Issue description

The control module is unable to properly calibrate, verify, or read the expected physical position of the air throttle valve (also commonly referred to as the Intake Throttle Valve or ITV).

Check the cause

  1. Check for environmental factors, as extremely cold temperatures can sometimes falsely cause intake throttle valve codes to appear

  2. Inspect the air throttle valve harness and the ITV connector for damage, corrosion, or loose pins

  3. Check for related voltage codes such as 000051.03 (Voltage High) or 000051.04 (Voltage Low), which point to a hard electrical short or open circuit

  4. Verify if the intake throttle valve is physically restricted, stuck, or failing to close properly due to carbon buildup or debris

Repair steps

  1. Verify fault code

Turn the ignition ON (key ON, engine OFF) and verify if the fault code is currently active.

  2. Inspect connections

Disconnect the Intake Throttle Valve (ITV) connector and inspect the connections.

  3. Inspect and clean valve

Remove the intake piping to visually inspect the air throttle valve body. Clean any carbon buildup or physical obstructions that would prevent the valve from completing its calibration sweep.

  4. Diagnose internal failure

If the wiring is intact and the valve is unobstructed but the calibration issue persists, the internal position sensor or gearing has failed. The intake throttle valve assembly must be replaced.

  5. Replace valve

Remove the faulty Intake Throttle/EGR Mixer Assembly and install the replacement valve.

  6. Perform calibration

Using a compatible diagnostic tool (such as Jaltest or AGCO EDT), access the Engine Control System to perform the intake throttle valve calibration / relearn procedure.

  7. Verify repair

Verify the repair by clearing the codes and cycling the key to ensure the 003573.13 calibration code does not return.
