Massey Ferguson 4.00.0D – Transmission Control Module (TCU) / TRANS1: Forward Clutch Solenoid Open Circuit
Issue description
The transmission control system has detected a break in the electrical circuit supplying the forward clutch solenoid, preventing the transmission from engaging the forward clutch pack.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness between the Transmission Control Module (TRANS1) and the forward clutch solenoid for visible damage, chafing, or disconnected plugs.
Disconnect the electrical connector at the forward clutch solenoid and use a multimeter to measure internal resistance. A reading of 'OL' (open line) indicates internal failure.
Check the appropriate wiring circuits from the TCU connector to the solenoid connector for an open circuit or broken wire.
Check for corroded, pushed-out, or loose pins at both the solenoid connector and the transmission controller harness.
Clear the fault codes, cycle the key switch, and test drive. If the code returns and all wiring is intact, verify if the transmission controller itself is faulty.
Repair steps
Park the tractor
Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.
Locate the solenoid
Locate the forward clutch solenoid on the transmission hydraulic control valve block (it is typically paired alongside the reverse clutch solenoid).
Disconnect the connector
Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the forward clutch solenoid.
Clean the area
Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid base to prevent dirt or debris from entering the transmission's hydraulic system when the valve is removed.
Remove the solenoid
Unbolt and carefully remove the faulty forward clutch solenoid valve from the transmission block.
Lubricate O-rings
Lubricate the O-rings/seals on the new OEM replacement solenoid with clean transmission fluid.
Install the new solenoid
Install the new solenoid valve and torque the retaining bolts to OEM specifications.
Reconnect the connector
Reconnect the electrical harness connector securely.
Clear fault codes
Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool or by cycling the battery power.
Test operation
Start the tractor, test the forward and reverse power shuttle operation, and verify that the code does not return and the tractor moves forward smoothly.
