Issue description

The fault indicates an electrical current anomaly in the reverse directional clutch circuit. The transmission controller continuously measures the current (amp draw) from the reverse clutch solenoid circuit. If the amp draw falls outside the expected parameters (either too high or too low), it triggers this fault. This typically means the circuit is open, shorted to ground, shorted to a +12V power supply, or has lost its power feed entirely.

Check the cause

  1. Verify Solenoid Energization: Check if the reverse clutch solenoid is actually receiving power and energizing when the shuttle/mode lever is moved into the reverse position.

  2. Wiring Harness Inspection: Trace the wiring from the Transmission Controller (TRANS1) to the Reverse Clutch Solenoid. Look for chafed wires causing a short to ground or a short to +12 Volts.

  3. Voltage and Resistance Testing: Test the voltage at the solenoid plug. Check the internal resistance of the reverse clutch solenoid coil with a multimeter to see if the coil itself has failed open or shorted out.

Repair steps

  1. Secure the Machine

    Park the tractor on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and chock the wheels.

  2. Repair Wiring

    If the diagnostic checks reveal a broken or shorted wire in the harness between the TRANS1 module and the transmission valve block, splice and seal the damaged wire or replace the affected harness section.

  3. Replace the Solenoid

    If the wiring is intact but the solenoid fails the resistance test or is internally shorted, remove the retaining bolt/clip on the transmission valve block and extract the faulty reverse clutch solenoid. Install the new solenoid and reconnect the wiring harness.

  4. Clutch Calibration

    After replacing the solenoid or repairing the circuit, you must perform a Transmission/Clutch Calibration procedure so the TRANS1 controller can relearn the engagement bite point and PWM sequence for the new reverse clutch solenoid.
