Massey Ferguson 4.00.10 – Transmission Control Module (TRANS1): Reverse Clutch Solenoid Voltage Issue
Issue description
The transmission controller continuously measures the voltage and current draw from the reverse clutch solenoid circuit. If the current draw falls outside the expected limit, the controller logs this code, indicating that the circuit is open, shorted to ground, shorted to +12V, or has lost its power supply.

Check the cause
Ensure the tractor is parked on level ground, the parking brake is engaged, and the machine cannot move while performing tests to prevent run-over risks
Trace the wiring harness from the TRANS1 module to the reverse clutch solenoid, looking for chafed wires, disconnected plugs, or corrosion at the connectors
Verify if the reverse clutch solenoid is receiving power when the reverse gear is commanded
Measure the internal resistance of the reverse clutch solenoid coil with a multimeter to check if the coil is shorted internally or shows an open circuit
Repair steps
Locate the Solenoid
Identify the reverse clutch solenoid on the transmission valve block (often grouped with the forward clutch and PTO solenoids on the side of the transmission housing).
Disconnect Power
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.
Remove the Faulty Solenoid
Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the reverse clutch solenoid. Unbolt or unscrew the solenoid valve from the transmission housing/valve block. Have a catch pan ready, as a small amount of hydraulic/transmission fluid will leak out.
Install the New Solenoid
Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission fluid to prevent tearing. Install the new solenoid into the valve block and tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque.
Reconnect and Test
Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery. Start the tractor and check for leaks.
Calibration
Depending on the exact model and transmission type (e.g., Dyna-4/Dyna-6), you may need to perform a transmission clutch calibration procedure via the tractor's dash or diagnostic tool to ensure smooth gradual engagement of the reverse directional clutch. Test the forward and reverse shuttle operation to ensure the fault code is cleared.
