Massey Ferguson 4.00.14 – TRANS1: Reverse Clutch Solenoid Low Amps

The transmission controller actively measures the electrical current (amperage) drawn by the reverse clutch solenoid circuit during operation. If the current draw falls below the minimum specified limit, the controller logs this fault. This condition typically indicates that the circuit is open, shorted to ground, or has lost its 12V power supply.

   Check the wiring harness connector directly at the reverse clutch solenoid valve for pins that are disconnected, bent, pushed back, or rusty.

   Trace the wiring from the TRANS1 controller to the reverse clutch solenoid and test for an open circuit, a short to ground, or a broken wire.

   Verify that the solenoid is receiving its 12V power supply when the reverse gear is commanded.

   Measure the internal resistance of the solenoid coil to check for an internal failure (open circuit) which would prevent it from drawing the required amperage.

   Secure the Machine

   Chock the wheels and engage the parking brake.

   Clean the Area

   Locate the reverse clutch solenoid on the transmission valve block. Clean the surrounding area thoroughly to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system when the valve is removed.

   Repair Wiring (If Applicable)

   If the diagnostic checks revealed a damaged wire or corroded connector pin, repair the harness, clear the codes, and test the transmission.

   Replace the Solenoid

   If the wiring is intact but the solenoid coil has failed internally: Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid. Unbolt/unscrew the faulty reverse clutch solenoid from the transmission valve block. Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid with clean transmission hydraulic fluid. Install the new solenoid and torque to OEM specifications. Reconnect the electrical harness.

   Calibration

   After replacing transmission solenoids, a clutch calibration procedure via the tractor's diagnostic interface is usually required to ensure smooth engagement and prevent harsh shifting.
