4.00.16

Massey Ferguson 4.00.16 – Transmission Control Module (TCU / TRANS): Transmission Module Low Supply Voltage

Issue description

The voltage being supplied to the transmission controller has dropped below the minimum threshold required for the module to operate correctly. This is typically an electrical supply issue rather than a mechanical transmission failure.

Check the cause

  1. Check the battery voltage at rest to ensure a fully charged battery reads around 12.6V

  2. Start the engine and check the alternator output to verify the charging system is maintaining required voltage

  3. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Transmission Control Module for chafed wires, loose connector pins, or corroded chassis grounds

  4. Test the specific fuses and power relays that supply the transmission controller

Repair steps

  1. Address the Power Source

If the battery is weak or fails a load test, recharge or replace it. Clean the battery terminals and ensure tight connections.

  2. Repair Wiring/Fuses

If a fuse is blown, replace it. If the wiring harness shows damage or high resistance between the battery/alternator and the TCU, splice and repair the damaged sections using weather-sealed connectors.

  3. Replace the Alternator

If the alternator is failing to output sufficient voltage to keep the tractor's modules powered during operation, replace the alternator.

  4. Replace the Transmission Module

If the battery, alternator, and wiring all test perfectly (e.g., the module is receiving a solid 12V+ under load) but the code persists, the Transmission Control Module has an internal fault and must be replaced. Note: A new module will likely require dealer calibration/programming.
