Massey Ferguson 4.00.6E – TRANS1: Issue With Range 4 Engaged Switch Signal

The transmission controller is not receiving the correct electrical signal from the Range 4 position switch, which is responsible for confirming that the transmission has successfully engaged the 4th range. When this signal is lost or out of range, the tractor may experience jerky operation, fail to shift between ranges, or refuse to move altogether.

   Inspect the wiring harnesses connected to the transmission range switches for damage, chafing, or corrosion that might cause an intermittent or lost signal.

   Verify the switch failure using a multimeter by checking for continuity across the switch contacts in each position to ensure it is opening and closing correctly.

   Verify that the corresponding Range 4 solenoid is receiving power and operating correctly, as a solenoid failure can sometimes mimic a switch failure.

   Locate switch

   Locate the bank of transmission range switches and solenoids on the side of the transmission housing.

   Disconnect connector

   Disconnect the weather-sealed electrical connector from the faulty Range 4 Engaged Switch.

   Clean area

   Thoroughly clean the area around the switch to prevent dirt, moisture, or debris from entering the transmission housing when the switch is removed.

   Remove switch

   Unscrew and remove the faulty transmission range switch.

   Install new switch

   Install the new switch, ensuring any required O-rings or seals are in place to prevent hydraulic leaks. Tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque.

   Reconnect harness

   Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring the connector is fully seated and locked.

   Clear codes and test

   Clear the 04.02.6E (or 4.00.6E) fault code from the TRANS1 module and test drive the tractor to confirm smooth shifting into Range 4.
