Massey Ferguson 4.01.04 – TRANS: Issue With Signal Voltage From Clutch Pedal Sensor (TRANS)

The control module is receiving an implausible, missing, or out-of-range electrical signal from the clutch pedal sensor. When this voltage drops too low, spikes too high, or loses connection, the controller cannot determine the clutch's position, which can result in a loss of drive, harsh shifting, or the tractor refusing to move.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the clutch pedal sensor for chafing, pinched wires, or rodent damage.

   Unplug the sensor and check the connector pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-back pins.

   Using a multimeter, verify that the sensor is receiving the correct reference voltage (usually 5V) and has a solid ground.

   Back-probe the signal wire with a multimeter and perform a signal sweep test by slowly depressing and releasing the clutch pedal. The voltage should smoothly sweep (e.g., 0.5V to 4.5V) without dropouts, spikes, or dead spots.

   Verify overall battery and charging system health, as low system voltage can trigger false sensor codes.

   Power Down

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the clutch pedal sensor, which is mounted on the clutch pedal linkage assembly under the cab console/dash.

   Remove the Sensor

   Disconnect the electrical wiring harness from the sensor. Remove the mounting screws/bolts securing the sensor bracket to the pedal assembly.

   Install the New Sensor

   Mount the replacement sensor in the exact orientation as the old one. Tighten the mounting hardware.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back into the sensor and reconnect the battery.

   Calibration

   After replacing the clutch pedal sensor, a clutch pedal calibration must be performed. Depending on the tractor series, this is done either via a specific sequence using the dash buttons/levers or by using a dealer diagnostic tool (like the AGCO EDT) to teach the Transmission ECU the new 'fully released' and 'fully depressed' voltage values.
