Massey Ferguson 4.01.9D – Transmission Controller (TRANS2): Transmission Input Shaft Speed Sensor Calibration Fault

The transmission controller is receiving data from the input shaft speed sensor that falls outside of the expected calibration range, or the system has failed to properly calibrate the sensor's signal.

   Check the wiring harness and connector for corrosion, moisture, or breaks to verify if the sensor is actually faulty or if it is a circuit issue.

   Inspect the condition of the tone ring for damage or debris.

   Check the sensor gap relative to the tone ring, as an incorrect gap will cause erratic readings and calibration failures.

   Power Down

   Disconnect the tractor's battery before starting any electrical work.

   Locate the Sensor

   The transmission input shaft speed sensor is typically located on the transmission housing, often near the PTO shaft where access can be tight.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the mounting area around the sensor before removal to prevent dirt and debris from falling into the transmission housing.

   Remove and Replace

   Unbolt the faulty sensor and carefully extract it. Install the new sensor.

   Set the Gap

   Ensure the new sensor is positioned correctly relative to the tone ring.

   Reassemble and Test

   Reconnect the wiring harness and the battery. Clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool and perform a transmission calibration procedure as outlined in the operator's manual to ensure the TRANS2 module accepts the new sensor's baseline signal.
