Massey Ferguson 4.02.9D – TRANS2: Transmission Input Shaft Speed Sensor Calibration Fault

Issue description

The sensor reading the rotational speed of the transmission input shaft is providing an erratic signal, is out of calibration, or the speed signal does not match expected parameters.

Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness and connector for damage, corrosion, or moisture intrusion

  2. Verify the sensor gap relative to the internal tone ring is correct

  3. Inspect the tone ring for damage or debris that could cause a calibration or signal mismatch fault

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Disconnect the tractor's battery before starting any electrical work.

  2. Locate the Sensor

Locate the transmission input shaft speed sensor on the transmission housing. Access can sometimes be tight, so ensure you have the correct low-profile tools.

  3. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the mounting area around the sensor before removal to prevent dirt or debris from falling into the transmission housing.

  4. Remove and Replace

Unplug the electrical connector, unbolt the faulty sensor, and carefully extract it. Install the new sensor, ensuring it is seated properly and the O-ring/seal is intact to prevent moisture intrusion.

  5. Reassembly

Reconnect the wiring harness and reconnect the battery.

  6. Calibration

Because this is a 'Calibration Fault' (4.02.9D), calibration via the tractor's diagnostic system is typically required after installation to ensure proper operation and clear the code.
