Massey Ferguson 4.03.0F – Transmission Module (TRANS1): Reverse Clutch Solenoid Amp Draw Issue
Issue description
The transmission controller continuously measures the current draw from the reverse clutch solenoid circuit. If the current draw falls below a specific limit, the controller logs this fault. This condition typically means the circuit is open, shorted to ground, or has lost its power supply.

Check the cause
Connect a compatible diagnostic tool to the tractor's diagnostic port to confirm the active 04.03.0F code in the TRANS1 module.
Inspect the wiring harness from the transmission controller to the reverse clutch solenoid for loose connections, broken wires (open circuit), or rubbed insulation causing a short to ground. Clean any corroded connections.
Use a voltmeter to test the leads plugging into the reverse clutch solenoid. Verify if the solenoid is receiving proper voltage when energized (when the shuttle/mode lever is moved to the reverse position).
Test the internal resistance of the reverse clutch solenoid itself to determine if the coil has failed open, which would cause the low amp draw.
Repair steps
Secure the Machine
Park the tractor on a flat surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.
Repair Wiring
If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire or a short to ground in the harness between the TRANS1 controller and the solenoid, repair or replace the affected wiring section.
Replace the Solenoid
If the wiring is intact but the solenoid fails the resistance/current test, remove the faulty reverse clutch solenoid valve from the transmission valve block and install a new one.
Fluid Check
Check the transmission fluid level. If fluid was lost during solenoid replacement, top it off with Massey Ferguson Transmission Fluid.
Clear Codes
Reconnect your diagnostic tool, navigate to the TRANS1 menu, and clear the 04.03.0F DTC.
Transmission Calibration
After replacing transmission solenoids, it is highly recommended to perform a transmission/clutch calibration (adjusting the PowerShuttle progressivity settings) to ensure smooth gradual engagement of the reverse directional clutch.
