Issue description

The electronic control unit responsible for managing the transmission is receiving a voltage supply that has dropped below the minimum operating threshold. This is typically an electrical supply issue rather than an internal mechanical failure of the transmission itself.

Check the cause

  1. Measure the battery voltage resting (should be ~12.6V) and with the engine running (should be 13.5V - 14.5V) to test the battery and charging system.

  2. Check the main battery terminals, chassis grounds, and cab grounds for corrosion, rust, or looseness.

  3. Locate the fuse box and test the specific fuses and relays labeled for 'Controller power supply Dyna-4 / Dyna-6 - Transmission' (e.g., circuit EFD00169_19).

  4. Disconnect the main harness at the Transmission Control Module and inspect the pins for water ingress, bent pins, or corrosion.

  5. Using a multimeter, probe the power supply pins at the TCM connector with the key ON to verify if the voltage drop is occurring in the wiring harness before it reaches the module.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

    Always disconnect the negative battery cable before servicing electrical components to prevent short circuits.

  2. Resolve Supply Issues

    If the diagnostic checks revealed a bad relay, blown fuse, or corroded ground wire, replace the relay/fuse or clean and tighten the ground connection.

  3. Repair Wiring

    If voltage at the TCM connector is low but battery voltage is normal, trace the power wire back to the fuse panel and repair any chafed or broken sections of the wiring harness.

  4. Replace the TCM

    If the harness delivers full voltage to the module but the code persists and the transmission remains in limp mode, the internal power circuit of the Transmission Module has failed. Remove the mounting bolts, swap in the new module, and reconnect the harness.

  5. Reassemble and Calibrate

    Reconnect the battery. Use a Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the stored 4.03.16 / 04.01.16 fault codes. If a new TCM was installed, you must perform a transmission calibration (range calibration, clutch pedal calibration, etc.) as specified in the service manual so the new module can learn the tractor's clutch bite points and sensor parameters.
