Massey Ferguson 4.X.04 – Transmission Control Unit (TCU) / TRANS: Issue With Signal Voltage From Clutch Pedal Sensor

The tractor's diagnostic system has detected that the output signal voltage for the clutch pedal sensor (identified in OEM schematics as component X68) is outside of its acceptable limit. This means the sensor is sending a voltage reading that is either too high, too low, or erratic compared to what the controller expects for a given pedal position.

   Inspect the clutch pedal assembly inside the cab and check the physical mounting of the X68 sensor to ensure it hasn't come loose or fallen out of alignment.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the clutch pedal sensor for chafed wires, pinched lines, or corrosion inside the connector plug that could cause high resistance or a short circuit.

   Using a multimeter or dealer diagnostic tool (AGCO EDT), monitor the live signal voltage from the sensor while slowly depressing and releasing the clutch pedal. The voltage should sweep smoothly without dropping out or spiking.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during replacement.

   Locate the Sensor

   Access the clutch pedal linkage under the dashboard/steering console to locate the X68 clutch pedal sensor.

   Remove the Faulty Sensor

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the sensor. Remove the mounting hardware (depending on the model, this may be a threaded body with a locknut or a bracket with screws) and remove the sensor.

   Install the New Sensor

   Fit the replacement OEM sensor into the exact position. If it is a threaded sensor, ensure it is adjusted to the correct depth so the pedal mechanism engages it properly without crushing it.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical harness back into the sensor. Reconnect the battery.

   Calibration

   Because this sensor controls transmission engagement, you must perform a clutch pedal/transmission calibration procedure using the tractor's dashboard sequence or diagnostic tool so the TCU can learn the new sensor's 0% (disengaged) and 100% (engaged) voltage limits.

   Clear Codes

   Clear the 4.X.04 fault code and test drive the tractor to ensure smooth forward/reverse shuttle operation.
