4.X.6C

Massey Ferguson 4.X.6C – TRANS1: Issue With Range 2 Engaged Switch Signal

Issue description

The transmission controller has detected an inconsistency or signal error from the Range 2 position sensor (L57). This occurs if the controller detects a short circuit (often to 0V), an open circuit, a supply voltage error, or if the switch state does not match the commanded state of the Range 2 solenoid valve.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the L57 Range 2 position sensor 2-pin connector on the transmission housing for moisture, corrosion, or backed-out pins.

  2. Test voltage and continuity on the sensor harness (Pin 1 supply 12V/8.5V, Pin 2 signal return) for open circuits or a short to ground (0V).

  3. Verify mechanical and hydraulic operation to ensure the Range 2 solenoid valve is actually actuating hydraulically.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

  2. Locate the Sensor

Access the side of the transmission housing where the range selector rails and limit switches are located. Identify the L57 switch (Range 2).

  3. Removal

Disconnect the 2-pin electrical harness from the sensor. Unscrew the faulty limit switch from the transmission housing.

  4. Installation

Fit the new Range 2 position sensor along with its sealing washer/O-ring.

  5. Torque

Carefully thread the new switch in and tighten to a maximum of 5 Nm to avoid damaging the sensor body or the selector rail interface.

  6. Reconnection & Clearing

Reconnect the electrical harness. Turn the ignition on and use the tractor's dashboard menu or an AGCO diagnostic tool (EDT/Wintest) to clear the saved error codes.

  7. Test

Perform a test drive, shifting through all ranges to ensure Range 2 engages smoothly and the code does not return.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Transmission Control Sensor / Range Switch Plunger

    3796579M1

2-pin limit switch. Verify fitment against the tractor's serial number.

  • Transmission Range Position Switch

    4364705M2

Commonly used on newer 5700, 5S, and 6700 series. 2-pin limit switch. Verify fitment against the tractor's serial number.
