Check the cause

  1. Check the wiring harness and electrical connections leading to the sensor for moisture intrusion, corrosion, or loose pins.

  2. Check the sensor gap and ensure the tone ring is not damaged or covered in excessive metallic debris.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Always disconnect the tractor's battery before starting work to prevent electrical damage to the transmission module.

  2. Locate the Sensor

The transmission input shaft speed sensor is typically accessible from underneath the tractor, mounted directly to the transmission housing.

  3. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the sensor mounting area and the electrical connector. This prevents dirt, dust, or moisture from entering the transmission housing when the old sensor is removed.

  4. Remove the Sensor

Disconnect the electrical harness and unbolt the sensor from the housing.

  5. Install the New Sensor

Insert the new sensor, ensuring it seats properly and is positioned correctly relative to the tone ring.

  6. Reconnect

Reconnect the weather-resistant electrical harness, ensuring the seal is tight to keep out moisture and contaminants.

  7. Test

Reconnect the battery, clear the stored fault codes from the TRANS2 module, and test drive the tractor to verify that smooth shifting has returned and the code does not reappear.
