Massey Ferguson 41 – Armrest Autotronic 5: X109 - FingerTIP 4 - short circuit to 0 V
Issue description
The system has detected that the signal wire from the 4th fingertip spool valve control switch (designated as component X109) is shorted to ground (0 Volts). This prevents the operator from controlling the associated electro-hydraulic remote valve.

Check the cause
Connect a diagnostic tool to read the live voltage values of the FingerTIP 4 switch to confirm the 0V short
Inspect the wiring harness between the Armrest Autotronic 5 ECU (connector X104) and the FingerTIP 4 switch (connector X109) for chafed wires shorting against the metal frame
Disconnect the X109 connector at the FingerTIP 4 switch and check for damaged pins, moisture, or corrosion bridging the signal wire to ground
With the switch disconnected, check if the 0V short circuit code changes to an open circuit or high voltage code (e.g., AR 42) to isolate an internal switch failure from a wiring harness failure
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Access the Armrest
Carefully remove the top cover/bezel of the Command Control Armrest to expose the fingertip joystick modules.
Disconnect and Test
Unplug the X109 connector from the FingerTIP 4 switch. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance to ground on the signal wire.
Repair or Replace
If the harness is shorted to ground, trace the wire back to the Autotronic 5 module and repair the damaged section. If the harness tests fine, remove the retaining screws holding the FingerTIP 4 switch in place and install a replacement switch.
Reassembly
Reconnect the X109 plug and reassemble the armrest console.
Calibration
Reconnect the battery. You must use the diagnostic tool to clear the fault codes. Note: A new switch may trigger code AR 49 ("X588 - FingerTIP 4 Calibration not completed or incorrect"), meaning you will need to run the fingertip calibration routine via the diagnostic software or the Datatronic terminal before it will function.
