Issue description

Voltage is below normal. This typically means the sensor circuit is experiencing a short to ground, or the sensor itself has failed internally and is returning a voltage reading lower than the acceptable operating range.

Check the cause

  1. Check DPF system operation to see if the soot load is high or if the tractor is requesting a parked regeneration.

  2. Visually inspect the wiring harness leading to the DOC inlet temperature sensor. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation from exhaust heat, or a short circuit to the chassis ground.

  3. Use a diagnostic tool to read live data from the DOC inlet sensor. If the reading is erratic, stuck at a default extreme, or drops out, the sensor is likely faulty.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

    Ensure the tractor is turned off and the exhaust system (DOC/DPF assembly) has completely cooled down to prevent severe burns.

  2. Locate the Sensor

    Locate the DOC inlet temperature sensor on the exhaust aftertreatment assembly (upstream of the Diesel Oxidation Catalyst).

  3. Disconnect Wiring

    Unplug the 2-pin electrical connector from the sensor. Inspect the connector pins for corrosion or damage.

  4. Remove the Sensor

    Using the appropriate wrench, carefully unscrew the temperature sensor from the exhaust pipe. (Penetrating oil may be required if the sensor is seized from exhaust heat).

  5. Install the New Sensor

    Thread the new OEM temperature sensor into the exhaust bung and tighten to the manufacturer's torque specification.

  6. Reconnect and Clear Codes

    Reconnect the 2-pin electrical harness. Turn the key to the ON position, connect your diagnostic tool, and clear the 004360.04 fault code.

  7. Verify Repair

    Start the engine and monitor the DOC inlet temperature via live data to ensure it rises smoothly as the exhaust heats up. If necessary, initiate a manual DPF regeneration to confirm the system is fully operational.
