Massey Ferguson 52 – Armrest Autotronic 5: FingerTIP 5 - short circuit to 12V

The control unit is receiving an abnormally high voltage signal (battery voltage/12V) from the FingerTIP 5 switch's circuit, meaning the signal wire is shorted to a 12V power source, or the switch has failed internally. The system will typically block the affected hydraulic valve when this code is active.

   Inspect the FingerTIP 5 switch on the armrest for physical damage, sticking buttons, or signs of liquid ingress.

   Access the armrest internals and check connector X110 (dedicated to FingerTIP 5) for bent pins, corrosion, or moisture.

   Disconnect X110 and test the wiring harness back to the Armrest Autotronic 5 module (connector X104) for continuity to a 12V power source on the signal wire.

   Test the FingerTIP 5 switch/potentiometer itself for an internal short.

   Verify the reference voltage coming from the TECU (typically 10V). If 12V is present on the reference circuit, the harness may be chafing against a 12V power wire inside the armrest console.

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the battery isolator to prevent electrical damage during disassembly.

   Remove the retaining screws and plastic cladding from the armrest console to expose the internal wiring and switch bases.

   Disconnect connector X110 from the FingerTIP 5 switch.

   Repair the circuit or replace the switch depending on the isolated fault.

   If the harness is shorted: Trace the wiring back to connector X104 on the Autotronic 5 module. Locate the chafe or melted wire and repair it using appropriate automotive wire and heat shrink. If the switch has failed: Remove the retaining hardware (screws/nuts/support plates) holding the switch to the armrest console. Install the replacement switch and secure it.

   Reconnect connector X110, reinstall the armrest cladding, and reconnect the battery.

   Turn the ignition on and delete the error code from the control unit dashboard.

   Because the system blocks the valve when a fault is detected, you must stop and re-run the engine to reactivate the spool valve after the code is cleared.
