Massey Ferguson 520206.31 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Engine controller internal error

The CY33x internal injection processor chip on the circuit board that controls the fuel injectors has suffered a hardware failure, a clock loss, or a severe voltage irregularity, limiting or disabling fuel injection.

   Check Injector Wiring: Inspect the engine wiring harness leading to the fuel injectors. Look for chafed wires, melted insulation, or shorts to ground/power.

   Test Injector Resistance: Ohm-test the fuel injectors to ensure none have an internal short circuit.

   Verify ECU Power/Ground: Check the main power supply and ground pins at the ECU connector to ensure the module is receiving stable voltage.

   Clear and Retest: Use the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) or WinEEM4 software to clear the code. If the code immediately returns upon key-on or engine cranking, the ECU is permanently damaged and must be replaced.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the battery isolator switch and disconnect the negative battery cable.

   Remove the ECU

   Locate the EEM4 Engine ECU (typically mounted on the side of the engine block, utilizing vibration isolators).

   Disconnect Harnesses

   Carefully release the locking levers on the primary and secondary wiring harness connectors and unplug them from the ECU.

   Dismount

   Remove the mounting bolts and remove the faulty ECU.

   Install New ECU

   Mount the replacement ECU and torque the bolts to OEM spec. Reconnect the wiring harnesses securely.

   Programming (Dealer Level)

   Connect the AGCO EDT (Electronic Diagnostic Tool) with WinEEM4 software to flash the correct engine dataset/variant for the specific tractor model and calibrate the immobilizer/system.
