E520209.31

Massey Ferguson E520209.31 – Engine ECU: Problem With The Injector Timing

Issue description

Error in the plausibility of the injection energizing time. The system is detecting an abnormal pulse shape or timing mismatch regarding when the injectors are being energized versus the engine's physical position.

Check the cause

  1. Check the mounting of the camshaft position sensor and ensure the air gap between the sensor tip and the trigger wheel teeth is strictly between 0.2 mm and 1.0 mm.

  2. Inspect the condition of the trigger wheels for damaged, bent, or missing teeth.

  3. Check the injector solenoids and their wiring harness connectors for signs of oxidation, corrosion, or shorting.

  4. Verify if the Engine ECU software version is the latest available.

Repair steps

  1. Access the Camshaft Sensor

Locate the camshaft position sensor on the engine block.

  2. Measure and Adjust Air Gap

Using a feeler gauge, measure the distance between the sensor tip and the trigger wheel. If it is outside the 0.2 - 1.0 mm specification, adjust the sensor mounting or replace the sensor if the housing is damaged.

  3. Inspect the Trigger Wheel

Manually bar the engine over and visually inspect every tooth on the trigger wheel. If any teeth are damaged, the trigger wheel must be replaced.

  4. Clean Injector Connections

Disconnect the wiring harness from each injector solenoid. Inspect for green oxidation or moisture. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease before reconnecting.

  5. Update ECU

If the mechanical components and wiring are in good condition, connect the AGCO diagnostic tool (WinEEM3/EEM4 Service Tool) and flash the Engine ECU with the latest software version.

  6. Clear Codes and Test

Clear the E520209.31 code and run the tractor under load to verify the repair.
