E520216.31

Massey Ferguson E520216.31 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Engine Module Internal Issue

Issue description

MOCSOP (redundant stop test) Diagnostic error. The module has failed its internal self-diagnostic check regarding the redundant engine shut-off circuits.

Check the cause

  1. Verify battery voltage is a healthy 12.6V resting and that the alternator is not overcharging, as voltage spikes or undervoltage conditions during startup can cause the MOCSOP test to fail.

  2. Check the main ground straps from the battery to the chassis, and the specific ground pins on the ECU harness, as poor grounding can simulate internal module failures.

  3. Disconnect the ECU and inspect the pins for water intrusion, corrosion, or thermal damage.

  4. Clear the fault code using a diagnostic tool (like Jaltest or AGCO EDT). If the code returns immediately upon key-on or engine crank, the ECU has suffered a hard internal hardware failure.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes during removal.

  2. Locate the ECU

Locate the Engine ECU, which is typically mounted directly to the side of the engine block on rubber isolation mounts.

  3. Remove the ECU

Carefully release the locking levers on the main wiring harness connectors and unplug them. Unbolt the ECU from its mounting bracket.

  4. Repair or Replace

Send the original ECU to a heavy-duty electronics repair service to rebuild the internal circuits, or procure a new or remanufactured ECU.

  5. Installation

Mount the new/repaired ECU to the engine block and securely reconnect the wiring harnesses.

  6. Programming (If Replaced)

If a new or remanufactured ECU was installed, a dealer technician must use the AGCO diagnostic tool to flash the correct software parameters, copy configurations, and pair the ECU to the tractor's immobilizer/CAN network.

  7. Final Test

Reconnect the battery, turn the key to the ON position, and verify that the E520216.31 code is no longer active. Start the engine to confirm the repair.
