Massey Ferguson 520221.31 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EEM4: ECU internal fault 0114 / Too many SPI errors during MoCSOP execution
Issue description
This fault relates to the monitoring concept of the redundant shut-off paths, a low-level safety function built into the ECU hardware to ensure the module can immediately control and shut off the fuel injectors. The code is triggered either by incorrect ECU software settings or a genuine physical failure within the ECU hardware.

Check the cause
Cycle the ignition key to see if the fault is active or intermittent, as this self-test runs at the beginning of the driving cycle.
Check the main power supply and ground circuits to the engine ECU. Voltage drops, poor grounds, or battery undervoltage during startup can cause the ECU's internal hardware checks to fail and falsely flag an internal error.
Connect the AGCO diagnostic tool (WinEEM3/4 or FenDias) to check the ECU software version. Verify if there are any available dealer software updates or service bulletins, as wrong ECU settings in software can trigger this code.
Repair steps
Inspect Wiring
Disconnect the ECU harness connectors and inspect for corrosion, pushed-out pins, or moisture. Clean the contacts and re-seat the connectors securely.
Reflash the ECU
If a software update is available from AGCO, reflash the ECU to correct any software-level setting errors.
Replace the ECU
If the wiring is sound, the software is up to date, and the code immediately returns upon key-on, the ECU hardware has failed the internal safety check. Remove the faulty EEM4 controller.
Install and Program
Install the replacement ECU. You must use the AGCO diagnostic tool to program the new module with the specific tractor's configuration, parameters, and injector trim codes.
