E520227.31

Massey Ferguson E520227.31 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Engine Module Internal Issue (ECU) / MOCSOP Diagnostic error

Issue description

The Engine Control Unit (ECU) failed its internal self-diagnostic check regarding the redundant engine stop safety mechanism (MOCSOP redundant stop test). It is an internal processing or hardware fault within the module itself.

Check the cause

  1. Verify that the battery is fully charged and that the main power and ground harness connections to the ECU are clean and tight to rule out voltage drops or poor grounds.

  2. Use a diagnostic scan tool to clear the fault code. Cycle the ignition key, start the engine, and perform a shutdown to see if the MOCSOP redundant stop test fails again.

  3. Contact a Massey Ferguson dealer to see if there is a software update (reflash) available for the ECU that addresses overly sensitive MOCSOP diagnostic parameters.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect battery

Disconnect the tractor's battery (negative terminal first) to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate ECU

Locate the Engine Control Unit (typically mounted on the side of the AGCO Power/Sisu engine block or on a dedicated bracket).

  3. Unplug ECU

Carefully release the locking tabs on the main wiring harness connectors and unplug them from the ECU.

  4. Remove ECU

Remove the mounting bolts securing the ECU to its bracket and remove the faulty unit.

  5. Install replacement ECU

Install the replacement ECU and secure the mounting bolts.

  6. Reconnect wiring

Reconnect the wiring harnesses, ensuring the locking mechanisms click fully into place.

  7. Reconnect battery

    Reconnect the battery.

  8. Program ECU

An authorized Massey Ferguson technician must connect the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT) to flash the ECU with the correct firmware, engine maps, and immobilizer pairing for your specific tractor chassis.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Engine Control Unit (ECU) / Engine Control Module (ECM)

Order using exact serial number. Common Bosch units include EDC17CV54 (3.3L) and EDC7UC31 (6.6L). Do not purchase a used ECU from a different tractor model unless you have a guaranteed way to wipe and re-flash it.
