Massey Ferguson 520228.12 – Engine Control Unit (ECU): Cy320 Multiple Power Supply module SPI/COM-Error
Issue description
Critical internal hardware or communication failure within the Engine Control Unit (ECU). Specifically, the internal CY320 chip/module, which manages multiple power supplies within the ECU, is experiencing a Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) or communication error.

Check the cause
Perform a system reset by turning the ignition off for a minimum of 60 seconds to allow the ECU to power down completely, then turn it back on to see if the code clears.
Inspect the main battery cables, ECU ground straps, and the ECU main power relay for voltage spikes, severe voltage drops, or a failing main relay.
Check for accompanying codes related to battery voltage (e.g., overvoltage/undervoltage) or CAN bus communication errors. If voltage codes are present, diagnose the alternator and batteries first.
Connect the AGCO Electronic Service Tool (EDT) to verify if the fault is active or previously stored.
Repair steps
Disconnect Power
Always disconnect the negative (-) battery cable before working on the electrical system to prevent further damage.
Remove the ECU
Disconnect the EEM4 control unit main connectors. Unbolt the ECU from its mounting bracket (usually located on the side of the engine block or firewall).
Replace or Rebuild
Field repair of the internal CY320 chip is not possible. The ECU must be replaced with a new unit, a remanufactured unit, or sent to a specialized agricultural electronics repair facility for board-level repair.
Install and Program
Install the replacement ECU. A new or replacement ECU is not 'plug-and-play.' It must be flashed/calibrated with the specific engine specifications (e.g., injector trim codes, engine mapping) using the AGCO Electronic Service Tool by an authorized dealer.
