Massey Ferguson 520234.31 – Engine Control Unit (ECU) / EEM4: ECU internal fault 0129 / Diagnostic fault check to report ABE active due to undervoltage detection

The EEM4 monitoring system logs this code when it detects an internal hardware defect within the controller. It can also be falsely triggered by a slow dropping of the vehicle's electrical system voltage (such as from a defective battery), which causes the ECU's OCWDA diagnostics to register an undervoltage event as an internal error.

   Check system voltage: Thoroughly test the tractor's battery and alternator. A slow voltage drop can trick the ECU into logging this internal fault.

   Clear and retest: Connect the Electronic Diagnostic Tool (EDT), save the error log, erase it, restart the ECU, and perform a driving cycle to see if the fault returns.

   Software update: If the fault returns, check for available software updates and download the newest software to the engine control unit.

   Swap test: Temporarily swap the ECU with another known-good EEM4 controller. If the tractor functions normally and the fault does not activate, the original ECU is confirmed defective.

   Connect EDT

   Connect the EDT device to the tractor and open the diagnostic software.

   Save engine log

   Open the 'Diagnostic Test' page, select 'Save & Upload Engine Log,' and save the engine log information to your desktop.

   Save IQA codes

   Open the 'Calibration' tab and save the IQA (Injector Quantity Adjustment) codes for later use.

   Start ECU replacement

   Navigate to 'Configuration,' select 'Engine ECU Replacement,' and click start.

   Power off

   When prompted by the software (Step 1), turn the ignition switch to OFF and wait for exactly 2 minutes until power is completely cut off from all tractor control units.

   Remove old ECU

   Disconnect the wiring harnesses and remove the old EEM4 unit.

   Install new ECU

   Install the new EEM4 unit and reconnect the harnesses.

   Read serial number

   Turn the ignition switch to ON. The EDT will read the serial number of the new EEM4 unit.

   Activate and configure

   Follow the remaining on-screen EDT instructions to activate the unit, upload the saved engine log, and write the saved IQA codes to the new module.
